What is company fleet insurance?

Company fleet insurance is a business motor policy covering the vehicles a company owns, leases or operates. It insures employees driving for work, satisfies leasing and finance requirements, and gives the business one renewal date and one point of contact for claims.

  • Covers employees and directors driving on company business
  • Leasing and finance companies noted as interested parties
  • Any-driver cover removes admin when staff change
  • Trade and claims record drive the price

How it works

1. Tell us about your fleet

Answer a few questions about your business, your vehicles and your drivers. It takes around three minutes.

2. We introduce you to a broker

Your enquiry is passed to an FCA-authorised fleet insurance broker whose insurers cover your trade and vehicle mix.

3. The broker quotes you

The broker discusses your requirements, provides the quotation and gives any advice. There is no obligation to take cover.

Company fleet insurance is written in the name of the business rather than an individual, which matters for ownership, VAT, claims handling and how the risk is rated.

It also unlocks controls that a private policy cannot offer: driver criteria applied across the whole workforce, mid-term vehicle changes handled by a fleet administrator, and management information on where claims are coming from.

Who company fleet insurance suits

Any business that owns or leases vehicles in the company name can be written on a fleet basis, from a two-vehicle limited company to a national operation.

  • Construction and trade contractors running vans and pick-ups
  • Professional services firms with company cars and pool cars
  • Distribution, wholesale and delivery businesses
  • Care providers, cleaning firms and mobile service engineers
  • Agricultural and plant businesses with mixed on-road vehicles

Driver management on a company fleet

How you define who may drive is one of the most powerful pricing levers available, and one of the biggest sources of claims disputes when it is handled loosely.

  • Any driver over a stated age — most flexible, most expensive
  • Named drivers only — usually rated lowest, but every new starter needs adding
  • Age-banded any driver, typically 21+, 25+ or 30+
  • Licence checking through the DVLA share code service, which many insurers now require annually

What underwriters ask a company for

Have these ready and your quotes come back faster and sharper.

  • Registered company name, number and trading address
  • Nature of the trade and how long the business has traded
  • Full vehicle schedule with registrations, values and use
  • Three to five years of confirmed claims experience
  • Driver list with dates of birth, licence types and convictions
  • Details of any O-licence held

Why quote through Fleet-Quote.co.uk

One policy, one renewal

A fleet policy puts every vehicle on a single schedule with one renewal date instead of separate policies falling due through the year.

Every vehicle type

Cars, vans, pick-ups, lorries, taxis and minibuses can all sit on the same schedule with one renewal date.

Three minutes of your time

You answer once. We pass your enquiry on rather than making you repeat the same questions to several brokers.

FCA-regulated introductions

We are an introducer, not a broker or insurer. Enquiries are only ever passed to firms authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Frequently asked questions

Can a sole trader get company fleet insurance?
Yes. Fleet cover is available to sole traders, partnerships and limited companies alike. The policy is simply written in the trading name.
My business is new — can I still get fleet cover?
Yes, though new ventures pay more because there is no trading or claims history behind them. Bringing personal claims experience from a previous policy or a previous employer's fleet can help.
Are employees covered to drive personal cars on business?
Not by the fleet policy. Employees using their own vehicles for work — the grey fleet — need business use on their own insurance, or the business needs a separate occasional business use arrangement.
Does company fleet insurance cover public liability?
No. Motor fleet covers vehicle-related liability only. Public liability, employers' liability and tools cover are separate policies that are usually arranged alongside.
How is the premium paid?
Most fleet insurers offer annual payment or monthly instalments by direct debit, with the premium adjusted at the end of the year if vehicles have been added or removed.
